Deck The Halls

If you’ve decorated for the holiday season, I hope everything is still intact! I try to keep our decorations to a minimum. It’s really just an excuse to put out more animal “stuff.” I hope you enjoy the Christmas items I’ve collected over the years.

Part of me is glad the cats don’t play with this because of the noisy bells đŸ˜‰

Here’s our pet stockings and photo ornaments.

Here’s the top of the bookcase with ornaments and a photo of Zinger with Santa. The wood carvings are from the Dog Bark Park Inn.

Two days after putting up decorations, I found a stocking on the ground…

…Looks like a house cat is sending a message to the Barn Cats!

Made Me Laugh

I don’t know about your cats, but mine can be noisy during sleeping hours. Borgia was the worst because she used to squeak her paws on our closet door mirror. Our solution has been to create The Cat Room. Outsiders would call it a guest room since it has a queen size bed in it, but WE know who the room belongs to.

The Cat Room has always included kitty essentials: food, water, litter boxes, beds, scratchers, cat tree and toys. For my amusement, I added kitty inspirational art work that included every house cat’s superheros… tigers and lions! Recently, I decided to get rid of the tacky tiger and lion framed posters and put up artwork that spoke to me:

Order yours HERE

I hung this glorious framed print above the cat’s litter boxes.

Crazed For Catnip!

I bought some new catnip toys for Cooper, Borgia and Tully around Christmas time from The Pussums Cat Co. I became aware of this company after seeing their products recommended on www.hauspanther.com (my favorite website for ideas on spending money on our cats).

This picture should convince you how great these catnip toys are!

Tully is still in training to become a product model. Rule #1 is to have product fully visible. Uh! Newbies.

Simple, Must Have Product

I am obsessed with these magnetic bookmarks! Having to read text books in school turned me off of reading, even for fun. A big annoyance while reading was losing my place. Too often the stupid bookmark would fall out and I wouldn’t know what page I was on or I wouldn’t remember what paragraph I needed to start at.

This product solves both of those problems by 1) open the magnet, place magnet around the edge of the book page and close…won’t fall out of the book and 2) the back side of the magnet has an arrow you can place on what line of text to start reading. The reasonable price, quality and usefulness of this product is more than enough reason to purchase this product.

With all the dog related books (behavior, training, and communication) I’ve been reading since we became a foster home for Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon, these bookmarks are very handy. Instead of taking handwritten notes, I’ve been photocopying the book pages. I cut out the portion I want to keep and tape it into my dog training notebook. Since I have so many of these magnetic bookmarks, I can mark my spot to photocopy and keep on reading. I wait until I use 5-10 bookmarks, then I’ll go make my photocopies.

Dog Owners: After a dog walk, grab a book and curl up on the couch with your pup!

Cat Owners: Join your kitteh on your bed (couch, or recliner) and read a book!

All-Time Favorite Litter Scoop

DuraScoop Cat Litter Scoop

I’ve never been a fan of cleaning litter boxes and I don’t know anyone who is. Over the years, I’ve had some terrible litter scoops and a couple I thought were really good. I will admit I was WRONG.

Where was this litter scoop back when I got Borgia almost 13 years ago?

I’ve had the Durascoop Cat Litter Scoop (click here for amazon link) for close to a year and I love it. I am cleaning 4-5 litter boxes a day, so I am really testing this scooper out. I needed a scooper that is comfortable in my hand, will hold up to heavy usage, and not create more work for me (break or fling litter). Don’t hesitate to purchase this scooper because it costs more than the cheap, flimsy litter scoopers you are used to using. Spending the extra money is worth the benefits you will receive.

Golden Bond 2015 Calendar

Hope you’re enjoying your 2015 Golden Bond Rescue of Oregon Calendar. If you’re not, you obviously didn’t buy one yet. If this is the case, click HERE to get yours ASAP! January is a photo of Bela (our first foster dog) and March is Heidi month (our second foster dog).

Edna Knows How To Play!

Turns out Edna knows how to play with a ball. It took almost a week for her to show interest, but it happened and I have proof! She appears to be feeling better physically (upper respiratory infection treated with antibiotics & ears treated with medicated drops) and emotionally (consistent love and attention).

Not only is Edna playful at times, she has some spunk! Thankfully we have a locking trashcan in our kitchen, because she’s pawed at it and has nudged it hard enough to knock it over twice. If you have a dog, no matter what size or age, you should have a locking trashcan to prevent your dog from consuming anything hazardous to their health (it could save their life and your wallet).
